It’s De-Lurk Time, Brought to You By the Number 2 and The Adverb
1) We’ve had 6 inches of snow here and another 9 are forecast, for a grand total of 15 (in case your maths are bad) or 40cm (in case your metrics are good). It’s big fun and I love it, although tomorrow was supposed to be Day 2 of the new job and it looks like I won’t be able to make it to the office, nor have I got the login details to use the new sparkly kit I’ve received to do my new job. Nor will Melissa and Jeff likely be able to fly home. At least the weather is cozy, eh?
2) Ah yes. The new job has started. I am still sorting things out, but I think I love it. Watch this space.
3) Something cool has happened. More later. Let’s just say that I am floored.
4) Something not cool has happened. More later. Let’s just say that I wish I’d kept the receipt for me, I’d take me back for a refund because clearly my statutory rights have been affected. Shit should not be breaking down here, I am obviously badly made.
5) I am reliably informed it is De-Lurking week, but since procrastination is my middle name, then how about half a week? So go on then. I won’t hunt you down. If my statistics are correct then there are quite a few people out there who read here, and this is the one time of the year I ask you to tell me about you for a change, meaning that I’ll now be terrified and cowed by those who come here and wonder why you bother with my little corner of mental. You know my life and who I am, now the table turns and my curiosity asks if you’ll tell me about you? Capes off! De-lurk!*
-S.
*Er, please, that is. Not like I’m ordering you to or anything.

Courtney here. Mother and wife and writer in St. Paul, MN. Not de-lurking per se as I contributed to your Around the World in 80 Blogs project, but I lurk more than I comment. Which is a bad habit you’d think I’d get over, considering how much I like comments on my own site. Looking forward to the details on all your teasers, there.
Alicia here. New mother to a 4 month old little girl. I’m currently on maternity leave (we get 1 year here in Canada). I work in Canadian government. I skipped on over from twistedovaries and love hearing about your little lemonheads. I’m looking foward to the details on your teasers too!
Oh lurking….can’t stand it, yet I do it. Seems I barely have the free hands to type comments–but I *do* check your blog daily. My twins–lil’ boys were born just before yours-on the 9th. I also have a 7 year old boy. I found your blog just after you found out you were expecting twins. I have loved watching our bellies, then our babies grow together. I am such a cheezeball, when I read the post with the proposal at the end–oh my, the tears of joy. I thought your sweet family was breaking apart and this just made me so happy. I truly hope 2010 rocks for you.
Michelle from Knoxville, TN here. I’m a mother to 2 kids (daughter aged 12; son aged 7). I am a project manager for a global Fortune 100 company. Our European HQ is in Brighton, UK so I’ve been in your “neck of the woods” frequently. On the odd side, I do tend to glance around the crowd for you every time I visit London. Not that it’s likely I’d ever run into you but it would be cool. :) Although I think you might scream for the police if strange woman comes up to you and tells you she’s been following you for a while. LOL! Love hearing about your babies…they’re precious. I’ve been reading your blog since your pregnancy with them. Enough? :)
I hate when you tease, really.
Lurker here! Mom of 3, 29 going on 29….married for 11 years. Live in sunny California, Silicon Valley San Jose.
Sarah here from the US, PA to be exact. Infertile mother and freelancer writer. Love your blog.
Totally De-lurking! Happy Holidays from Fresno, California! I’m a 40 yr old avid soccer player (footballer to the rest of the world) I have 2 kids, daughter to turn 18 on the 22nd of this month and son who is 7. Same baby daddy who i have been with for almost 22 years…thank you for sharing all your stories. you are an amazing and beautiful person. if im ever on your side of the pond or vise versa, drinks are on me!
De-lurking from the suburbs of Detroit, MI. Mom of 2, meema of 1. Newly remarried (New Years Eve). GO RED WINGS! ;-)
I lurk more than I comment too… Deeleea, Kiwi living in Australia. Single, ‘mother’ to a Burmese feline who makes life just that little bit more insane, freelancer, university graduate and all round good egg… Thanks for your frank and honest posting Shannon, for whatever reason, and I’m just not sure what it is really, your blog is one of my favourites. Maybe it’s just because of the frank and honest thing. Congratulations on making it through 2009 intact, I sincerely hope 2010 is incredible for you Alistair, and the family. I think you deserve a great year.
Kelly here. I live in Eagan, MN and am an associate project manager. Something about the way you write keeps me captivated and so I keep coming back, but never comment. Yes, I’m guilty. Anyway … I live with my new husband and our dog, Bruce, in a lovely little townhouse. I’m about to start my MBA and this time next year we’re going to start trying for a little one of our own. If we’re lucky enough to have that work out for us, she’s already named :) In the meantime my beautiful nephews are my heart. That’s the most important stuff to know about me at this point in my life. Consider me “de-lurked.”
Elizabeth here, can’t remember how I stumbled upon your blog, but it was before the twins were born. Mother to 3 grown children plus two step-children and grandmother to three. Coming at ya from Fresno, CA
Glad you love the job so far. I hope that love continues for a long time to come.
Yea for the cool thing that happened!
Boo for the not cool thing.
As for de-lurking, it’s me! Stacie! I’ve been around for what seems like forever. :-)
Kelly here. I’m from Wisconsin. I’ve been reading for around 2.5 years and I’m a terrible commenter..sorry about that! Anyway, absolutely love your writing, and get a kick reading about your little ones as I’m a twin myself (identical twin sister.) Am more drawn lately because my husband and I have officially entered the world of infertility. We’ve been trying for over a year, I received a diagnosis of PCOS, and am now waiting on my sluggish fertility Dr. to put through my prescription for Metformin. It feels like small potatoes compared to what some have been through! Anyway, I’m sure that’s more than you ever cared to know, but there you are. :-) Thanks for sharing with us!
I’m a 40 year old married mom of a 15 year old son who just got his learner’s permit. Why yes, I have marred his passenger interior with fingernail marks! I live in Tampa, and it is so cold this week I cannot believe this is Florida. I have been reading since you lived in Sweden. I think your children are simply scrumptious, and I wish you all much happiness and peace in the new year. :-)
Mia here, started reading you when I was living and blogging in Hong Kong, carried on when I was in China, now in the US
Lurker, male, 44, from Denmark. Father of 2 year old son, my wife suffers from BPD-like symptoms, and it was searching for an explanation of what the heck was going on with her which led me to your blog initially, some three years back now. Loved your writing, and started reading through it all back from day 1, and am still here almost daily. Best wishes!
De-lurking here. . .I’m Jenny, mother of soon to be three kids (#3 is coming Thursday) and I’m over here in Maryland, US. I’ve been reading for about a year and have never posted before, but I check your site daily. Your kids are gorgeous and I was so excited to hear about your engagement!
Another lurker, more than commenter here. I’m a mom to two, an almost 10 year old boy and a 15 year old girl. Unemployed since June, and still trying to find any job…my husband also got laid off, the day before Christmas. I also follow your flickr stream. I love to hear your stories and about the kids. Hope the good things keep happening for you in 2010!
De-lurking to say that I am chewing my nails wondering about 3) and 4). I am a mom of one, wife of one, and um, that is really all there is to say about me. :) I am infertile and found your blog when you were pregnant with the twins.
I only just realized that I don’t comment here often enough. So consider me un-lurked. I am a new mom after a five year battle with infertility. The internet helped me get pregnant. xo
I’m Jen, but you have gotten like hundreds of emails from me. :) And have that Tampa woman email me, she lives near here, she can join our blogger parties.
i’m delurking….
and confessing i’m totally a groupie for you.
I’m another lurker. I’m Dee, 27, married with one cat and I’m a primary school teacher living on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Guilty!!! Hi from New Zealand, where we are in the middle of summer and its currently 25C.
I have been reading your blog for around 5 years now, although I seldom comment. Partly due to the fact that I usually read your blog on windows mobile/iphone, and I cant access your blog at work….it comes up with a message about pornographic content :-P. I had laugh when I saw that. I love reading your blog, and admire you for your openness. I know it can’t be easy to share some of the things you do, but it so nice to read that someone else has similar issues, and its nice to know I’m normal.
Hopefully I will still be readying your blog for years to come.
Love from NZ XXX
I’m a lurker, only. Can’t remember how I found you- it was quite a while ago- but I liked what I read and so I keep coming back! I’m a stay at home mom of one boy (a few months older than your two) in IL, USA. Gotta say I don’t mind the teasers- gives me something to look forward to in my mostly boring life. As long as you reveal…eventually!
Ok, I’m a lurker too. I love to read your blog & feel like you are a wonderful friend. From Nashville, TN & I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of years. I have a 16 & 10 yo sons.
I occasionally delurk…Been reading five or so years, mother of two grown children, newly remarried, newly rejobbed, and living in the tiny community of Pine Mills, Tx, USA…love your blog to pieces.
Been reading a long while, rarely comment, 2 boys (13 & 7), boring job, great hubby, live just outside of Fort Worth, TX.
I’m still here…wait, that’s sounds I’m stalking you. Which I’m not. In any case, delurking once again from Pittsburgh to say hello!
I comment sometimes but not nearly enough. 38 year old married mom to a very busy 18 month old. I finally conceived him after a long battle with infertility. We live on Long Island, New York and we just came home from a wonderful month in London. I love reading your blog so much. Truly, I feel your highs and your lows as if they were my own. Thank you for sharing your life and your stories and photography with us.
Lala here – Photographer from Boise, Idaho USA. I usually comment over on flickr because…I’m lazy? hehehe
Delurking…I hardly ever comment, but read every day! I’m a mom to a 19 month daughter, I work in HR and live just outside of Houston.
Hiya, not sure if I count as a lurker, I have commented from time to time over the years, albeit rarely. Amanda from Sydney, Aus. Used to write a blog myself, but never did get the hang of blogging regularly. Still, I love to read blogs, yours is one of the ones I read whenever there is a new post.
I comment occasionally. I’m a 40 year old mom of a 3 year old from the Midwest. I love to read your writing and I find your story fascinating. I think I actually found your blog when you were writing about the Baby P story, and we share a common view on that. However, I missed out on several months of your posts because your site was blocked by our filter at work – for some reason it had you classified as porn – and I would forget to read you from home.
Another Australian here. I started reading you when I was an expat in the UK but now I am back in Aus. Hello!
Hi from Southern Ontario. I’ve been reading for ages. I’m 47, mum to a girl, nine, and a boy, seven, wife to a fabulous man. Just finished six months of mutilation, poisoning and burning, also known as treatment for breast cancer. Former chemistry professor, now staff scientist at a relatively large university…faculty no more! which has proven to be quite a relief (and yes, I had tenure and I quit anyway). Doing an MA in cultural studies online. I blog sporadically at best, but am glad that you’re more dedicated to it. Thanks.
De-lurking. I think I may have de-lurked previously, but probably haven’t commented since! My wife and I both read, and we’re all the way down in Melbourne, Australia.
The girl with many names and many blogs, here. I’ve read you since shortly after you started blogging. ;)
Not a lurker but saying HI! Can’t wait to hear more about the teasers.
Lurking from Melbourne, Australia. Expecting 39 degrees on Saturday. Snow, you say?
Amy here – from Maryland, US. 52 with 2 grown daughters and a recent (3 1/2 years) WONDERFUL husband. Just spent the last year battling breast cancer and am very excited about 2010. I believe it is going to be a MUCH BETTER YEAR for you and me!
I’m not officially a lurker as I’ve commented before – but just want to say I very much admire you and your writing! Have been reading since in LA in 2005 and am now back in Scandinavia…and still reading! Happy New Year!!
Not lurking ever – you know me! I hate it when you have cliff-hangers!!
I am not really a lurker as you do know me! Promise! But I tend to read a LOT more than I comment nowadays, combination of being shy about my blog and also crazy busy with my two girls. I am still very fond of looking at pictures of the Lemonheads and your descriptions of life on the cold isle make me homesick for the days when I traipsed those same paths in London wearing high heels and lipstick. Now I wear vegimite fingerprints and comfy pajamas Downunder in Sydney.
Hello, I’m not sure I’m a lurker anymore, although I definitely was a few months back.
Tasmanian, living in the middle of freaking nowhere. I love your writing, it makes me want to be better. I also love that your blog, here, it feels approachable, regardless of how many comments you have or the traffic you get. I don’t feel 2 inches tall reading here like I do other places. And that? Is a very good thing.
Lily here- long time (>28 yrs) mother of one, long time (>27 yrs) working with German CPS in a small town in the Ruhr area. Two times divorced, very happy single woman of 46. Enjoying every.single.word you write since I don’t know- 2006? You are brutally honest, hilariously funny, and one of the most beautiful women I ever saw on a photograph.
:-)
Lily
Hi! Delurking – 30 years old, living in Melbourne, Aus. Hoping 2010 is a year of big changes – moving house (already bought), getting a dog (already scouting for one, but can’t adopt until we move into said house) and trying for a baby (this comes after the move & the dog etc). That’s the plan anyway, who knows what will actually happen? I love your blog and have been reading for years… Anna
I’ve been a faithful reader since just before the babies were born. I’m a mother of 4. (18, 15, 13, and 3). I think the biggest reason I come here to read is you always say something that touches a truth in my own life. Whether it’s about parenting, marriage, in-laws, or self. I always come away with something to think about. From the little you’ve shared I believe we have similar childhood/teen years. I appreciate your honesty and your willingness to share.
I am glad to hear the job is off to a promising start. I also can’t wait to hear more about point number 3!
